What is Black Hat SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is writing content for a website in a way that will make the page appear higher on search engine rankings. When a person types in a few words in the search bar, a list of sites come up that pertain to those words. If you use proper SEO, your page will be near the top of the list and attract more attention. Black hat SEO is using cheats to trick the search engine into placing your page higher than it should be. In most cases, it will work for a short time and then it will be caught and your page will be put at the bottom of the list. A few common black hat tricks include:

Keyword Stuffing

One of the most commonly used black hat tricks is to use a keyword or phrase over and over in the article or at the end in the byline. The big search engines are looking for specific keyword density now. If your article has too high, a density it will not make it to the top of the list. It is more important to have good information than to have one phrase repeated over and over.

Non-relevant Content

When you write an article, make sure it stays on topic. While it is all right to stray a bit too incorporates complementary information, it is not all right to have an article on dog health change to talk about an easy way to make money on the Internet. These articles will be penalized to the bottom half of the rankings as well.

Using Invisible Text

This is almost like a subliminal message for search engines. It is white text on a white background so readers do not see it. With invisible text, you can have an article that is very well written and relevant to the subject so readers do not report it or give it a negative rank. The problem is that the search engines notice the invisible text. If you are just key word stuffing with it, you can be sure you will be caught and lose any high ranking you have achieved.

Problems with Guest Posting

After all the search engine updates and algorithm changes, it is more important than ever to make sure you do not practice black hat SEO. You also need to make sure anyone guest posting on your site does not use it. Many times guest posts will have links to their own sites, which is fine if done right. It is up to you to make sure the links work, go to a good site and have something to do with what the article was written about. It is also important that there are not too many links in an article.

When you use good SEO practices, you are sure to end up high in the rankings and have many visitors to your website. It may take a little longer, but you will stay up high longer too. Black hat SEO is just not worth it in the long run.
